As part of this project, we replaced an outdated fuse board with a modern 18th Edition consumer unit, providing the property with improved electrical safety, greater reliability, and full compliance with current UK Wiring Regulations (BS 7671). The Installation Process🪛 Before any work began, we carried out a full assessment of the existing electrical installation to ensure it was suitable for a consumer unit replacement. The power supply was safely isolated, and the old fuse box was carefully removed while identifying and labelling every circuit. The installation included: * Safe isolation of the electrical supply. * Removal and disposal of the existing fuse box. * Installation of a new metal-clad consumer unit. * Fitting individual RCBO protection for each circuit to minimise disruption in the event of a fault. * Installation of Surge Protection Device (SPD) to protect sensitive electrical equipment from transient voltage surges. * Re-termination, identification, and organisation of all existing circuits. * Neat cable management and secure connections throughout the installation. * Comprehensive electrical testing of every circuit. * Issuing a full Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) and Building Control notification. Throughout the installation, every connection was torque-tested to the manufacturer's specifications, and all wiring was inspected to ensure long-term reliability and safety. The Finished Result The completed installation provides a clean, organised, and professional consumer unit with clearly identified circuits and significantly improved protection. The new fuse box offers enhanced safety through individual RCBO protection, reducing the likelihood of unnecessary power outages while providing better protection against electric shock and fire risks.
