Daddy Electrician Ltd successfully completed a commercial electrical installation for a coffee shop in Brentford, West London, taking the project from the initial assessment and electrical planning stages through to installation, testing, commissioning and the final professional finish. The project required careful coordination with the client and other trades to create an electrical installation that was safe, reliable, practical and visually suited to a modern coffee shop environment. A commercial coffee shop can place significant demand on its electrical installation. Equipment such as professional coffee machines, grinders, refrigeration units, dishwashers, water heaters and other catering appliances must be considered carefully when designing circuits and selecting suitable protection. We reviewed the locations of equipment, customer areas, counters, preparation areas, lighting points and electrical accessories so the installation could be planned around the finished coffee shop layout. Planning correctly at this stage helped prevent unnecessary alterations later in the project. 📍Step 2 – First-Fix Electrical Installation Once the electrical layout was agreed, we moved into the first-fix electrical works. Cables and electrical supplies were installed for the required power, lighting and equipment locations before the walls, ceilings and decorative finishes were completed. Particular attention was given to the coffee counter and preparation areas because these required multiple electrical supplies while still maintaining a clean finished appearance. Our objective was to ensure that the electrical infrastructure remained discreet while providing the power required for the day-to-day operation of the business. 📍Step 3 – Dedicated Supplies for Coffee Shop Equipment One of the most important parts of the project was ensuring that the commercial equipment had appropriate electrical supplies. Coffee shops can have considerably higher electrical demands than standard retail premises, particularly when several appliances operate simultaneously. We planned and installed suitable circuits for the relevant equipment, helping provide a safe and dependable commercial electrical system capable of supporting the operational requirements of the premises. 📍Step 4 – Lighting Installation Lighting played an important part in achieving the final appearance of the coffee shop. The installation had to provide practical illumination for staff while also helping create a comfortable and welcoming environment for customers. We carefully positioned and installed the required lighting so that the finished installation complemented the interior design rather than distracting from it. The result was a combination of functional commercial lighting and attractive customer-facing lighting suitable for a modern coffee shop. Challenges We Had to Overcome As with many commercial refurbishment projects, several elements required problem-solving and coordination during the works. Working Around Other Trades Electrical work had to be coordinated with builders, decorators, joiners and other contractors. Cable routes, socket positions, lighting locations and equipment supplies needed to correspond with the final construction and furniture layout. Good communication throughout the project helped prevent clashes and allowed the electrical installation to progress alongside the wider refurbishment. Limited Space Behind the Coffee Counter The main counter contained several pieces of electrical equipment within a relatively restricted area. We had to carefully consider cable routes and electrical accessory positions so equipment could be connected safely without compromising the appearance or usability of the counter. Maintaining the Desired Interior Finish A coffee shop is a customer-facing environment, meaning electrical accessories and visible wiring can have a significant impact on the finished appearance. Where possible, cables and electrical infrastructure were concealed or positioned discreetly. Accessories and lighting points were installed accurately to complement the interior design. Changes During the Project Commercial fit-outs can evolve as the project progresses. Where layouts or equipment requirements changed, we adapted the electrical installation accordingly while considering the existing work and the final operational requirements of the coffee shop. 📍Step 5 – Second-Fix Electrical Works Following completion of the building and finishing stages, we returned for the second-fix electrical installation. Sockets, switches, lighting, equipment connections and other electrical accessories were fitted and finished. At this stage, attention to detail was particularly important. Accessories needed to be straight, correctly positioned and professionally finished against the completed surfaces. 📍Step 6 – Testing, Commissioning & Final Checks Once the installation was complete, the electrical system was inspected and tested. Circuits and electrical equipment were checked to confirm that the completed installation was operating correctly and that the required electrical safety procedures had been followed. Any final snagging items were addressed before completion and handover. 📍The Final Finish📍 The completed coffee shop achieved the clean, modern and professional finish required by the client. Electrical accessories were positioned carefully, lighting complemented the interior design and the commercial equipment had the electrical infrastructure required for everyday operation.
