Bespoke Kitchen and Extension Lighting Installation in Wimbledon

About this project

Daddy Electrician Ltd recently completed a bespoke lighting installation for a modern kitchen and living extension in Wimbledon, South West London. The project formed part of a high-quality home improvement scheme, where the client wanted a lighting design that felt stylish and welcoming, while still providing practical illumination for everyday family life. The rear extension benefits from large roof skylights and black-framed sliding doors, which bring excellent natural daylight into the room. Our role was to install lighting that would work with these architectural features rather than compete with them, creating a well-lit and comfortable space from early morning through to the evening. Before installation, we considered the room layout, ceiling height, furniture positions and the amount of daylight entering through the skylights. This helped us position the light fittings in a way that provided a balanced result and avoided overcrowding the ceiling. The aim was to create layers of light: practical general lighting, attractive feature lighting and warmer ambient lighting for when the room is used for relaxing or entertaining. The completed installation included a combination of recessed LED downlights and feature pendant lights. The LED downlights were positioned around the skylights and the perimeter of the room to give discreet, even illumination without taking attention away from the clean ceiling design. These fittings are ideal for kitchen and extension spaces, providing bright and efficient lighting where it is needed while maintaining a neat, modern appearance. We also installed a selection of feature pendant fittings to create visual interest above the main living and dining area. The pendants include industrial-style metal shades and a decorative smoked-glass fitting, each carefully positioned and installed at an appropriate height. The warm filament lamps provide a softer glow in the evening and help give the room a relaxed, homely feel once the natural daylight has faded. All pendants were securely fitted, levelled and checked to ensure they sat correctly within the room. Care was taken with the cable drops, ceiling connections and final alignment so that the finished installation looked clean, balanced and professionally completed. The lighting design now complements the white ceiling, timber flooring, neutral walls and black aluminium doors, giving the extension a modern finish without looking over-designed. As part of the works, our electricians tested the completed installation to confirm that all fittings were operating safely and correctly. We ensure that new lighting installations are completed with attention to electrical safety, neat workmanship and long-term reliability. The client was also able to discuss the preferred lighting atmosphere, helping us ensure the final result suited the way the family uses the room. The finished Wimbledon extension now benefits from a flexible lighting arrangement that can be enjoyed at any time of day. During daylight hours, the skylights provide a bright and open feel. In the evening, the recessed LEDs offer practical illumination for cooking and day-to-day use, while the pendant lights create a warm focal point for dining, relaxing and entertaining guests.
